CLINICS
Family Planning
Our doctors offer a full and confidential family planning service. This includes
the pill, injectable contraceptives, caps and coil fittings. Doctors King and Sattelle run
a coil clinic on Wednesday afternoons.
Preconceptual Counselling
This is advice on how to look after yourself before you get pregnant. Please ask
your doctor for further information.
Pregnancy Tests
These are available by handing in an early morning sample of urine to reception
before 11.00am. The result will be available later in the day.
Maternity Care
If you think you are pregnant, please arrange an appointment with our midwives. Your care will be shared between your doctor, our midwives and the hospital. We have an antenatal clinic run by our midwives, on Thursdays 9.00am - 12 noon.
Under Fives
Doctors Sattelle and Atherton run a mother and baby clinic on Tuesdays 10.30am - 12 noon. This is to assess well children and check that they are growing and developing normally. At the clinic, our health visitors are there to advise you on your baby’s care. Our practice nurses administer the baby injections. We recommend that babies have immunisation against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, haemophilus influenza B, meningitis and polio at two, three and four months and are immunised against measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) at 12 - 15 months. If your child is unwell, it is more appropriate for them to be seen in surgery rather than at the well baby clinic.
We recommend that
pre-school children have a booster against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio at four years.
Consent
For Vaccinations
Would all parents/legal guardians of newborn
babies please note that their informed written consent must be given prior to
the commencement of a vaccination programme for babies. A grandparent or other
person cannot do this. Once written consent has been given for a programme to
commence, another person may then bring babies to the clinic for vaccination.
Minor Surgery/Freezing Clinic
Dr David Moore does minor operations on a Friday afternoon. He will remove
moles and small skin lesions. It is necessary to see Dr Moore in surgery before making
an appointment for minor surgery. We also run a 'freezing' clinic for the treatment
of warts and verrucae and some skin lesions. You have to see one of the partners
prior to making an appointment unless you have attended the freezing clinic before
with the same problem.
Steroid Injections
Steroid injections (not knees) are administered at the surgery. It is necessary to see Dr Moore or Dr Nally in surgery beforehand.
HEALTH PROMOTION
We are committed to prevention of illness and promotion of good health. With this
in mind you may be asked to fill in a questionnaire about your lifestyle. We recommend
you have your blood pressure, weight and urine tested every five years.
Smear Clinic
Women
aged between 25-49 years are invited to have a smear every three years. Women
aged between 50-64 years are invited to have a smear every five years.
Our
practice nurses run a smear clinic on a Tuesday morning 9.15am - 12.15pm, Wednesday
afternoon 1.15 - 5.00pm and Friday afternoon 3.00 - 5.15pm. For women who
are unable to attend these clinics, we have special arrangements - please ask
at reception.
Diabetic Clinic
Dr John Brearley has a special interest in diabetes. He runs a clinic on
Monday mornings. All diabetics are asked to attend at least once a year for a
full check.
Asthma Clinic
Asthma clinics are run by our practice nurses who have undergone special training
in asthma and chronic chest complaints. Patients are encouraged to attend at least
once a year.
Travel Immunisations
Our practice nurses can advise you on the vaccination requirements
for your holiday. Please ask at reception for details. You will be asked to complete
a questionnaire before attending. There may be charges for some vaccines but you
will be advised of this at the start of the course.
Forms For Collection
If you leave a form which needs attention from a doctor (holiday cancellations, insurance forms, sick notes etc) it will only be ready for collection after five clear working days. This will be longer for doctors who work part-time. When you hand in the form the receptionist will advise you when it will be ready. We encourage payment to be made by cheque for forms which incur fees (holiday cancellations, insurance forms etc and a deposit of £10.00 is payable in advance). Please ensure you have completed your part and signed consent where applicable.

If you suffer from any of the following ailments (and do not pay for your prescriptions) please see your harmacist for FREE treatment insted of your GP. You do not need an appointment and your pharmacist will assess you and supply medicine as appropriate. See your local pharmacist for full details.
