Medical Education
We are delighted to be involved in medical education at the Roslea practice
and offer teaching to both medical students from Manchester University and fully
qualified doctors undergoing further training to become general practitioners.
Patients will be kept fully informed and may be asked to assist by being
seen by medical students or trainee doctors on occasions. If you have any objections
you may, of course, decline to be seen by anyone other than one of the partners.
However, your co-operation is very valuable in the training of young doctors and
would be very much appreciated.
Our ongoing commitment to training keeps
the whole of the primary health care team on its toes and at the forefront of
medical advances!

THE PRACTICE
TEAM
Receptionists/Secretaries
Our staff are here to help you as best they can, and they do a difficult
job well. Please remember that if you are kept waiting or seem to be asked one
or two detailed questions, they are carrying out our instructions to help the
practice run smoothly.
All staff are fully trained, competent and caring.
They are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors. They try to
keep both the doctors and the patients happyin what is a difficult job. Please
be patient with them.
Practice Managers
They are responsible for the smooth running of the practice
and should be able to help you with any questions. They are happy to receive any
suggestions you may have about improving the service we offer.
Practice
Nurses
The surgery has four practice nurses Gina
Entwisle, Susan Higginson, Doreen Brown and Stephanie Glover. The nurses are available
for:- blood pressure checks, smoking cessation advice, asthma/chest clinic reviews,
travel health information and vaccination, contraceptive advice and pill checks,
weighing, dressing changes, any health promotion issues and advice on minor ailments.
They also offer an ear syringing service, a cytology clinic and a freezing clinic
and are available by appointment for help and advice on any medical matter that
may concern you.
If you are not sure a doctor's time is needed, please
use this valuable service; the nurses are highly qualified and available by appointment
to help you. A visit to the nurse may avoid someone who is quite poorly being
unable to be seen more urgently by the doctor.
Community
Nurses
They are a vital link between the practice, the infirm
elderly and those recently discharged from hospital.
The hospital and
your own doctor can refer you to them. They can be contacted at the Bamber Bridge
Clinic between 1.30 - 2.30pm on 01772 644676.
Community
Psychiatric Nurses
The community psychiatric nurses are based
at the Pathways Centre in Bamber Bridge.
Health
Visitor / Nursery Nurse
Our health visitor, Mrs Mary Horner together with a nursery nurse, provide advice on health care, particularly for new mothers and pre-school children. They are available at the baby clinic on Tuesdays or by contacting Riverside Medical Centre (01772 556745). They can advise on head lice.
Community Midwives
Our midwives run an antenatal clinic at the surgery on Thursday between 9.00 - 11.30am.
They can be contacted in an emergency through Chorley and District Hospital maternity
ward on 01257 245109.
NHS Numbers
NHS numbers will appear on all documentation to promote the use of the NHS number by patients and to inform you of your own number.
