The nurses are available for blood pressure checks, smoking cessation advice, asthma/chest clinic reviews, travel health information and vaccination, contraceptive advice and pill checks, weighing, dressing changes, any health promotion issues and advice on minor ailments. They also offer a cytology clinic and are available by appointment for help and advice on any medical matter that may concern you.
If you are not sure a doctor's time is needed, please use this valuable service; the nurses are highly qualified and available by appointment to help you. A visit to the nurse may avoid someone who is quite poorly being unable to be seen more urgently by the doctor.
Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.
The nurses provide a vital link between the practice, the infirm elderly and those recently discharged from hospital.
The hospital and your own doctor can refer you to them. They can be contacted at the Bamber Bridge Clinic between 13:30 - 14:30 on 01772 556745.
The health visitor, along with the nursery nurse, provide advice on health care, particularly for new mothers and pre-school children. They are available at the baby clinic on Tuesdays or by contacting Bamber Bridge Clinic on 01772 644676. They can also advise on head lice.
